When the best choice isn't the car you were looking for

Profile
A BMW enthusiast weighing a switch to a Tesla Long Range because of range.
Initial requirement
Move to an electric car with the longest possible range.
Constraints
About 30–40 km per day; only 4–6 longer trips a year, of roughly 350 km.
Considered
Tesla Long Range and BMW 530e Touring.
Recommendation
A 2023 BMW 530e Touring Luxury with around 17,000 km, BMW factory warranty and a specification far more aligned with what the client was really looking for — about €11,000 below the national market value for an equivalent car.
Outcome
A plug-in hybrid solution: electricity for everyday driving and the flexibility needed for longer trips, without giving up what the client valued about the BMW.
